Doubted that free YouTube course would teach me anything real, but here I am
I spent 3 months on a paid coding bootcamp and barely learned how to use console.log. Then last month I tried a free 12 hour Python course by some guy named Mosh on YouTube. I figured it would be surface level junk but he actually explained loops and dictionaries in a way that clicked. I built my first real project (a budget tracker) after week 2 of following along. Now I wonder if I should've just started with free resources instead of dropping $800 on that bootcamp. Anyone else had a free resource turn out way better than something you paid for?

Mosh's Java course got me hired six months later.

That's just how things work now, paid stuff often just repackages what you can get for free if you dig a little. It's the same with everything from workout plans to car repair videos, the good free stuff is usually made by people who actually love the topic.

You said "good free stuff is usually made by people who actually love the topic" - I'm not sure I buy that. Some of the most helpful free content I've found is just people recording their own projects and mistakes. But I also see plenty of free stuff that's basically ads for a paid course or a book. It's not like paid means scam and free means pure passion every time.
