I found out yesterday that most beginners spend 70% of their time just fixing bugs in their own code

Saw this stat on a coding subreddit and it hit me hard. I spent like 3 hours last night tracking down a missing semicolon. Has anyone else noticed this too or am I just bad at debugging?

Uh, "missing semicolon" for 3 hours? That honestly sounds like you're not reading your own error messages. Most of the time the compiler or interpreter tells you exactly what line the problem is on.

Eh, sometimes the error line number points to a totally different spot than the actual problem though.

Hah, yeah I feel that. I once spent forever hunting a bug that was pointing at line 42 when the real issue was a missing closing bracket like 200 lines earlier.
