Picked Python over JavaScript for my first language. No regrets 6 months later.

I started learning to code back in March. Couldn't decide between Python and JavaScript. Everyone said JS was more useful for jobs. But Python's syntax just clicked with me faster. After 6 months I can build small scripts that automate my spreadsheet work. Got a little dashboard going that pulls data from 3 different sources. It's not pretty but it works. Has anyone else gone against the popular advice and stuck with their gut?

But don't you think JavaScript would have opened up way MORE job opportunities for you?

More job opportunities" is the trap, @corah75. I've seen plenty of devs stuck maintaining old jQuery spaghetti because they chased that. Learning one thing well beats being average at everything, especially when the job market is already flooded with JS folks.

That reminds me of my buddy who spent two years learning every JavaScript framework that came out. He got real good at job interviews but couldn't actually fix a production bug without googling it. Knowing the basics solid is worth more than being able to list ten tools on your resume.

Well, jQuery is still JavaScript, just an older version of it.
