Switched from IDEs to plain text editors 6 months ago and wish I'd done it sooner
I used to rely entirely on VS Code with a million extensions for small python scripts. Then I took a Linux class at my local community college that forced us to use nano for everything. After 3 weeks of pure frustration, I realized I actually learned the code better without all the autocomplete crutches. Has anyone else tried ditching their heavy IDE for something like Sublime or even just vim?

3 months in, did your typing speed actually improve noticeably or still hunting keys?

Wait, three months and you're STILL hunting for keys? My brain just short-circuited reading that. Do you even have the home row memorized yet or is it just chaos on that keyboard?

Hard same here actually - it was around month 4 where things finally clicked, mostly because I forced myself to stop looking at the keyboard entirely. Covering your hands with a towel or using blank keycaps (if you're brave) is annoying but it rewires your brain way faster. Speed comes more from trusting muscle memory than drilling drills, so just let your fingers fumble through it.
