Threw $60 at a 'lifetime' coding course that vanished in 8 months
Back in 2021 I bought this Python course from a small creator for $60, was supposed to have lifetime updates. Dude just disappeared after 8 months, deleted his whole channel and site. Now I stick to free resources like FreeCodeCamp or wait a few months before buying anything new. Anybody else get burned by a course that just evaporated?

That vanished in 8 months" really sums it up. I got burned by something similar a few years back, paid $45 for a "lifetime" web dev bundle and the guy just dropped off the face of the earth after a year. Now I treat any "lifetime" claim like a red flag, especially from smaller creators who might just get bored or overwhelmed. FreeCodeCamp and YouTube are honestly more reliable, even if you have to dig around for good playlists. Your $60 probably taught you more about online course scams than Python, which is a bummer but at least you learned the real lesson.

Yeah that's exactly it. The "lifetime" promise is basically just a way to get you to buy in before they disappear. I've seen so many small creators start a course, get bored after a few months, and just stop updating anything. Even if they mean well at first, life gets in the way or they find something shinier to work on. It's a bummer because you paid good money based on a promise that was never really backed up by anything. Honestly you're better off sticking with free stuff that's been around for years and has a proven track record. At least you learned to be skeptical, which is probably worth the $60 in the long run.

Huh, I actually disagree a bit. I've bought a few lifetime courses from smaller creators and they worked out fine. Some of them are still updating years later. The key is checking if the person has a track record of finishing things before you buy.
