Unpopular opinion: I stopped copying code from YouTube tutorials after a meetup in Austin
I used to pause and copy every line from videos, but at a beginner meetup in Austin last month a guy made me type out a simple loop from memory and I blanked completely. Now I write down the idea first, close the tab, and try it myself even if it takes 4 tries. Has anyone else had a tutorial habit backfire like that?
Man, I used to roll my eyes at people who said copying tutorials was bad, because I figured that's just how you learn at first. Then I tried building something small with no video and realized I couldn't even start without peeking, which was a pretty rough wake up call. Writing the idea down first and closing the tab is such a simple fix, thanks for sharing it.
