Can we talk about how I was bagging and boarding wrong for 15 years?

A guy at a shop in Denver watched me shove a Silver Age book into a bag and said 'you're bending the spine, that board goes behind it.' Checked my old Marvels from 2009 and half have tiny creases I put there myself, has anyone else wrecked their own books without knowing?
