Had to pick between a rare variant cover and paying rent this month
I mean, my local shop in Tacoma got a single copy of that new Immortal Hulk #1 with the Alex Ross cover, but it was $75. My rent was due last week and I'm already tight, so I had to pass. It sold in like ten minutes and now I'm just staring at my bank app feeling dumb. Anyone else ever had to skip a grail because of real life stuff?

Rent always wins, but it's a special kind of pain. I skipped a first print of TMNT #1 at a con years ago because my car needed new tires. Watching it sell for five figures later felt like getting kicked.

Ouch, @garcia.jake, what was the asking price back then?

Man, that's the whole hobby in a nutshell right there. It's just a constant low grade hum of choosing between the thing you want and the thing you need. You see it everywhere, not just comics. My buddy passed on a concert to fix his fridge, another friend skipped a trip to save for his kid's braces. Adult life is basically a long series of choosing the responsible option and then quietly mourning the fun one you left behind.
