I alphabetized my longboxes by story arc instead of issue number and now I can't find a single thing
About two months ago I reorganized all 14 of my longboxes by story arc because it looked better on the shelf. Last Saturday I wanted to reread a single issue of Daredevil from 2016 and dug through three boxes before giving up. My buddy Dave came over, found it in 90 seconds, and asked why I don't just go by issue number like a normal person. Turns out I made my own collection harder to use and now I'm dreading the redo. Has anyone else switched their sorting and regretted it, or is there a system that actually works?
Alphabetical by arc sounds great until you need one book and the arc name is half a memory. I did villains by team once and could not find a random Spider-Man issue for a week. Dave is right, number order is boring but it wins when you actually want to read. Keep a tiny index card with arc names and issue ranges if you like the pretty shelf. You get both.
