I thought the local comic shop's grading service was a scam until last month

For years I ignored the grading service at Comics Plus in Toledo, thinking it was just a way to charge extra. Then I brought in a copy of Amazing Spider-Man #300 I found in my uncle's attic, and they sent it to CGC for me. It came back a 9.2 and sold for over $800, which was three times what I expected. Has anyone else been surprised by how much proper grading can change a book's value?

Grading turns a comic from a collectible into a financial asset. It's the difference between selling a used car based on a photo and having a full Carfax report. That slab and number give buyers a trusted standard, which opens up the whole online auction market. Your book wasn't just in good shape, it was now a verified commodity. That's why the price jumped so much, it reached a whole new pool of serious buyers.

I read a study that backed up what miller.diana said, showing graded comics sell for 40% more on average.

Honestly, it also locks in that condition forever. No worrying about it getting damaged on a shelf or fading. That peace of mind has its own value.
