My cousin said comic fans are too obsessed with movie stuff now...
We were at a small con in Columbus last weekend and he pointed out that most people were just talking about the new Marvel show, not the actual books. He said it feels like being a fan is more about watching stuff than reading it anymore. I kind of get his point... I spent maybe 30 minutes looking at back issues while the line for a movie star photo op was huge. But then I talked to a guy in that line who said the show got him to pick up his first comic in years. So which is it? Is the movie stuff watering down what it means to be a fan, or is it just bringing new people in who might find the books later? I'm stuck on this.

Doesn't every hobby have a casual side?

What if the movies are just the new newsstand? My dad bought comics at the drugstore because they were there and cheap. Now the shows are what's easy to find. That guy in line picking up a comic again proves it. The_faith is right about casual sides, but maybe this is how the hobby stays alive. It's not better or worse, just different.

Yeah, I saw an article about that. Said the old spinner racks were like the streaming menus of their day. Makes sense to me.
