Picked up a full run of 90s X-Men vs. a carefully curated short box of indie books and the difference was night and day

Last month I grabbed a long box of 1990s X-Men comics from a garage sale for $40, thinking it was a steal. But after reading through them, the stories felt so bloated and over the top compared to the tight, weird indie books I normally collect. Anyone else find that older mainstream stuff just doesn't hold up as well as the smaller press books you actually read more than once?

My pull list is basically just comics that fit in my tiny apartment.

Wait, have you actually tried the whole "only buy what fits on one shelf" thing too? @casey818, I totally get that struggle. I had a place once where my long boxes had to double as a coffee table. But then I started picking up those little magazine holders from the dollar store, and now I just grab whatever will squeeze in there each month. It's a weird kind of freedom actually, cuts down on the FOMO for new series. My wife still says the stack is gonna fall over and kill the cat one day though.

Yeah I used to think the shiny covers were the whole point but now I get it.
