The one time I cosplayed as a maintenance worker at a con
Went to a local comic con last month in Denver and threw together a quick costume as a back alley mechanic from some cyberpunk comic. People kept coming up to me asking if I could fix their prop weapons or broken cosplay bits. By hour three I was legitimately fixing a guys LED lightsaber with a paperclip and some tape. Learned that if you look the part and have the tools, you'll be way more popular than the guy dressed as Spider-Man.

The real genius move you pulled there is that you accidentally discovered the secret to being the most valuable person at any con. Everyone fights over who has the best costume but nobody thinks about who can actually keep the tech running. I bet the con staff loved you too because you were basically free labor for them. Next year you should set up a little repair booth and charge people five bucks for a quick fix, you'd make bank. Honestly this is the kind of creative hustle that gets you remembered way more than any cosplay award.
