Heard a guy at the shop say 'any idiot can dive a Kirby Morgan'

I was at the safety meeting last Tuesday down in Houma and some kid fresh out of school said that. Told him to try running a hot water suit off a 20 amp breaker in 40 degree water and see how smart he feels. Knowledge on rigging and air consumption separates the guys who make a career from the ones who quit after one season. Anyone else run into new divers who talk like they already know it all?

Ain't that the truth? I've seen that exact same attitude from new guys more times than I care to count, they think the cert card makes them an expert. Real respect in this line of work comes from knowing your limits and getting the job done without making it dangerous for everyone else. Good on you for setting him straight.

Too many people rely on that certification and forget common sense is way more important.
