Hot take: watching the crew swap out a 36 inch riser at the Port of Long Beach changed how I check my own gear
Stood on the dock at Pier J in Long Beach last Tuesday watching a 4 man crew pull a worn riser out of the water, and what got me was the diver doing the pre-dive check on his own umbilical. He ran his hands down the whole line twice, not once, and found a nick about 20 feet in that I would have walked right past. Now I do the same slow pass on my gear before every job, even when I am rushed. Anyone else pick up a habit from just watching another crew work?
