I bought a cheap salvage knife for a job in the Gulf and it snapped on me
It was one of those generic ones from a catalog, cost about 35 bucks and I figured it'd be fine for some light cutting. The blade just sheared off when I was trying to free a line, left me with a useless handle and wasted half an hour of bottom time. Anyone have a go-to brand for a solid, basic salvage knife that won't let you down?

Sounds like that knife was a real cut-rate deal.

Yeah, I've lost a few to the sink disposal myself.

My last cheap knife is still down there.

Wait, you seriously just left it in there? Like you didn't even try to fish it out with tongs or something? I feel like that's just asking for a future plumbing disaster or a really bad surprise for anyone sticking their hand down the drain.
