I finally quit skipping the buddy check and it caught a leak.
I used to think buddy checks were a waste of time on routine dives. But after a close call where my regulator failed, I made a rule to always do them. Last month, during a harbor inspection, my buddy spotted a tiny crack in my air hose. If we hadn't checked, I might have run out of air at 30 feet. Now I never skip it, and it's become second nature. It takes two minutes but could save your life.

Ever see how this happens with so many things? Like when you skip cleaning your gutters and then you get water damage. Or rushing through homework leads to bad grades you have to fix later. It feels like a hidden tax on being lazy, where you pay double later. We all know it's dumb but still fall for the quick fix sometimes. That moment of regret when it blows up is the worst. Tbh, it's why doing it properly from the start saves so much headache.

I mean, after enough routine dives you start to trust your own inspection more than a buddy's. Most times nothing goes wrong anyway, so skipping it can feel efficient.
