I was cleaning my Kirby Morgan helmet wrong for years

Always used a light spray of fresh water and a wipe down after a job. Last month in Port Everglades, a veteran diver named Carl saw me and asked if my comms ever crackled. He showed me how to fully flush the speech diaphragm housing with a specific mix of 10% white vinegar and water to prevent mineral buildup. My comms have been crystal clear ever since. Anyone have a different mix ratio they swear by for hard water areas?

Wait, so I was basically just giving my helmet a light spritz like it's a houseplant? (No wonder my comms sounded like a broken radio half the time.) Ruby's point about the seals is a good one, maybe my new crystal clear audio is secretly on borrowed time. Has anyone tried just using distilled water for the final rinse to cut down on any leftover vinegar?

Carl once told me he soaks his whole regulator in pickle juice once a year for good luck.

That vinegar mix is great, but I'd be careful with the percentage. In my experience, anything over 5% can start to degrade the seals over time.

What seals are you talking about?
