Just realized I've logged 1,500 hours in the North Sea and I still flinch at that first splash
Hit 1,500 logged dives on the console last week during a job out of Aberdeen and it kind of hit me weird. The number itself sounds huge but the part nobody warns you about is how the cold still gets you. Water was 7 degrees and my dry glove flooded on dive 1,498, which was a great way to celebrate. My supervisor laughed and said that's the sea's way of keeping you humble. Does anyone else find the milestones sneak up on you, or do you actually track your totals and celebrate them?

Man, that flooded glove on dive 1,498 is just cruel! I feel you on the flinching thing, that first cold splash never gets easier no matter how many hours you rack up.

That glove flooding on 1,498 is just the worst timing, the sea really does have a sense of humor. That first splash shock is real and I don't care how many hours you have, cold water to the face is cold water to the face. The milestones do kind of sneak up on you, one day you're green and nervous and the next your console says some number that sounds made up. I stopped tracking mine for a while and then caught it by accident and it hit me weird too, so you're not alone there.
