Just realized my bailout bottle saved the weld when my umbilical snagged at 60 feet in Port Arthur
I was doing a wet weld on a dock piling last Tuesday when my hose caught on a piece of rebar and my primary regulator started breathing wet, so I switched to my pony bottle and finished the pass without surfacing, and now I want to know if anyone else runs a 19 cu ft backup instead of the bigger ones for shallow harbor work.

Sixty feet in Port Arthur and your hose picks a fight with rebar, of course it does. That murky water has it out for everybody. But hey, at least your primary waited until you were already down there to start breathing wet instead of doing it on the surface where it would've just been annoying. Small favors. A 19 for shallow harbor stuff makes sense to me, you're not doing deco stops at that depth, you just need enough to get the pass done and get up. Mine has saved me more than once when a hose got pinched, and I never once wished I was dragging a bigger bottle around a pilings job.
