Saw something strange on a job in the Gulf last week...

We were doing a pipeline inspection about 40 miles off the coast of Louisiana, around 120 feet down. The visibility was pretty bad, but I kept seeing these weird, thick ropes of algae or something, not like the usual sea grass. My dive partner said it's just normal growth and to ignore it, but I swear it looked different, almost like it was clinging to the pipe in a new way. Has anyone else run into this kind of growth pattern down there recently?

Ever get that feeling when something just looks off? I totally get what you mean (and what @the_elizabeth saw too). It's hard to ignore your gut when you're down there.

Weird algae? I saw something like that on a beach in Florida once.

Florida algae, @the_elizabeth? Reminds me of that weird pink lake in Australia.
