Tried a Kirby Morgan 37 for the first time on a job in Norfolk and my neck still hurts
Ive been diving with a classic 17 for years but last month the client insisted on the 37 for a bridge inspection. The extra weight on my head after 3 hours underwater was brutal. Learned that lighter helmets have a cost too when it comes to stability in current. Has anyone else switched hats and regretted it for a specific job?

I actually have to push back a little here. The 37 is a different beast for sure, but I've found the extra weight gives me a lot more confidence in currents. I switched from a 17 to a 37 last year for a job on the Hudson and my neck was sore for a few days, but the trade off was worth it. Your head doesn't get knocked around as much when you have that heavier shell. A lighter hat can feel like a sail in strong water, and I've seen guys get their ears rung from the constant wobble. Maybe the 37 needs a better fit or a different neck seal to spread the load. I've also started doing some simple neck stretches before a deep dive and it's made a noticeable difference. So I'd say give it another try with some adjustments before writing it off completely.

Neck pays the price for stability every time.
