Can we talk about the week I fixed 9 machines and the one that broke me was a $35 part?
Last Tuesday I cleared my whole bench by Thursday noon, 9 machines out the door, including a laptop rebuild that booted on the first try. Then Friday a walk-in from a guy in a hurry dropped off a desktop with no post, and I swapped the power supply, reseated the RAM twice, even tried a different outlet. Turned out the $35 CMOS battery was dead AND the front panel switch was stuck, two dumb things I should have caught in 10 minutes. So here is my question for you all, do you think it is smarter to always start with the cheap dumb stuff first, or go straight to the big parts because time is money? I keep going back and forth on this and I want to hear how you run your bench.
Cheap stuff first, always, because it takes two minutes and saves you from feeling dumb later. Idk maybe it's just me but chasing big parts when a battery or a switch is the real problem just wastes your whole day. Start small, then go big if you have to.
