Dropped $180 on a 'refurb' label printer at a swap meet in Des Moines, the print head was shot
About two weeks ago I hit the swap meet down in Des Moines on a Sunday morning and a guy had a thermal label printer sitting there with a refurb sticker on it. He wanted $180 cash and I figured a label printer is a label printer and these things run three hundred new so I handed it over. Took it back to the shop, ran about twenty test labels and they all came out with white streaks down one side. Pulled the print head and the thing looked like someone scrubbed it with a scotch pad, plus two of the rollers were flat spotted. Replacement head was another $145, so I'm in this thing $325 for a machine I could have bought brand new with a warranty for $60 more. The guy had no card, no receipt, nothing. I'm putting this out there because I know a lot of us grab gear at meets to save a buck, but I should have brought a label roll and made him print something before I paid. Has anyone had any luck getting a swap meet seller to stand behind a sale, or is that money just gone?
