Hot take: thermal paste application methods barely matter

I spent 2 hours last week testing five different paste patterns on a Ryzen 7 7800X3D. Pea, line, spread, cross, and dot. The temp difference between the best and worst was 3 degrees Celsius. People in here acting like you'll fry your chip if you don't do it perfectly need to relax. Anyone else run actual controlled tests on this stuff?

Ha! 3 degrees is exactly what I found too when I went down that rabbit hole with my old 3700X. I even tried the "X" pattern because some guy on reddit swore by it, and it was literally the worst one by like half a degree. @nelson.wren and the competitive shooter crowd can keep their liquid nitrogen, I'm just trying to keep my PC from sounding like a jet engine while I'm paying bills.

Three degrees matters when you're chasing every last frame in a competitive shooter.

Is 60 fps not enough anymore?
