PSA: I ran a hard drive 6 inches off a running microwave for 3 days
I was cleaning up a bench job in my garage last month and set a client's WD Blue on top of the microwave because I ran out of space. The drive was a backup for a dental office in Reno and I figured a few days there was fine. When I hooked it up, the SMART data showed 14 reallocated sectors, and the drive kept dropping out during a file copy. I ran the test again on a different cable far from the microwave and it passed clean, so the only thing that changed was location. Has anyone else seen a drive get flaky just from being near an appliance, or did I just get unlucky with this one?
