PSA: Swapped thermal paste on a 5 year old laptop and dropped temps by 15 degrees instantly
I finally tried that Arctic MX-4 I had sitting in my drawer on my old Dell and it went from throttling at 95c to sitting at 80c under full load, has anyone else seen that big of a difference just from a simple paste change?

Check if your old paste was completely dried out and crusty, that alone explains the huge drop.

Made the mistake of leaving my brush in water once, same thing happened.

The 6 months thing is wild though, @tessa_carr. Were you using it daily or just on and off? I feel like paste consistency matters way more than people give it credit for, especially if you didn't wash it out properly before leaving it. That leftover moisture probably ruined the whole batch. But a full year of smooth results before the crash is still pretty impressive for any brush.
