Question about the Dell OptiPlex that died 20 minutes into a client's tax deadline
Had a rough one yesterday morning at a dental office in Austin, their front desk OptiPlex 3070 just shut off mid backup and wouldn't post. I pulled the CMOS battery, reseated the RAM, swapped the PSU from a spare 3050 in the back, and it fired right up, turned out the original power supply was putting out 11.4v on the 12v rail under load. Problem was they had 3 years of QuickBooks on that drive and no backup, so I cloned it to a new SSD with a $30 USB dock before I touched anything else. Took me 2 hours total and they paid the emergency rate, but man, that 11.4v reading is something I've never seen on a stock Dell unit before. Has anyone else run into failing PSUs on the 3070 line, or did I just get a bad batch?
