Thermal paste pump-out finally explained my 3am shutdowns
Ngl, I fought an overheating i7 for 2 months, tried case fans and repasting twice. The before and after change was night and day once I switched from a basic paste to a thicker one rated for vertical mounts. My idle temp dropped from 55C to 41C in under 15 minutes after applying it. I think the old paste was literally pumping out of the die gap under load, leaving a dry spot. Has anyone else seen this with high-end GPUs mounted vertically in a full tower? I still wonder if a contact frame would have fixed it sooner.

Contact frames help a ton, but thick paste fixes the root cause even better.
