Bought a $40 magnesium float for a patio job and it changed the game

I was finishing a stamped patio and my old steel float was leaving marks. The new one gave me a much smoother finish on the edges and corners. Anyone have a trick for keeping the magnesium from wearing down too fast?

Just a heads up, that's probably a magnesium alloy float. Pure magnesium would wear out way too fast.

Good point about the alloy! Baker.christopher is totally right about keeping it dry. I learned the hard way when mine got all pitted from sitting wet. A quick wipe and a tiny bit of oil makes it last forever. It's such a simple fix for a way better result.

Yeah, those alloy ones are the way to go. Keeping it clean and dry after each use made a huge difference for mine. A little bit of oil on it now and then helps too.
