Heard a new guy say 'just level by eye' on a driveway pour
We were doing a 30 yard residential driveway in Phoenix. He kept eyeballing it while screeding. Reminded me of my first year mistakes. How do you tactfully correct someone without making them hate you?

Just level by eye" on a driveway pour is a recipe for trouble. I get it, we all started somewhere. But a driveway needs proper fall away from the house, and your eye just can't measure that. A few inches off can mean water pooling against the foundation. Best way to handle it is pull him aside, away from the crew, and say something like "I remember when I used to do that too. It's why we always use a level now, saves headaches later." Keep it light and about yourself, not him. Most new guys appreciate the tip if you don't embarrass them in front of everyone.

@wendy_henderson21 I see it different. Eyeballing works fine if you know what you're looking for.

Around here everybody eyeballs their driveway slope and it works fine, half an inch is plenty of fall.
