Rant: a pour went bad in Fort Wayne and the old guy running the screed fixed my whole crew
We were pouring a 40 by 60 slab outside Fort Wayne and the mix started setting up way faster than we planned. A finisher named Dale who was just there to drop off a float grabbed a bull float and started working a corner himself. He got us to pull the edges early and keep the center wet, and the slab came out clean. Before that day I always waited too long to start finishing, and I haven't done it since. What do you all do when a load starts going off ahead of schedule?
Curious how fast things were actually going off when Dale jumped in. Was the mix already stiff at the edges, or did you just see it start to crust over on top? We had one last summer where the top set before the bottom and every trowel pass just tore it up. Did Dale have you guys add water at all, or was it all about timing your passes? Trying to figure out where that line is before it's too late.
