Saw a crew overworking their concrete on a job last week
They were still troweling the surface 4 hours after the pour, trying to get it glass smooth. The mix was way too stiff by then and they were just pulling up fines, leaving a weak top layer that will dust up in a year. I learned this the hard way on a garage floor I did 2 years ago. Now I stop all finishing work once the sheen is gone and you can walk on it without leaving prints. Has anyone else found a good rule of thumb for when to walk away from the trowel?

My rule is once the sheen disappears, I'm done.

Yeah, that "sheen is gone" rule saved my last patio from turning into a dust bowl.
