Vent: Power trowel vs hand finishing on a 40 yard pour

Last month I bid a warehouse floor. 3000 square feet of slab, 6 inch thick. Thought I'd save a few bucks and do it by hand with my crew of three. We were out there for 12 hours straight, backs screaming, joints not nearly as flat as I wanted. This week I did a similar job and rented a power trowel. Night and day. Flatter finish, half the time, way less heavy lifting. Never going back. Has anyone else switched to power trowels and regretted buying a cheap one?

3000 square feet isn't really that big a deal to do by hand, is it?

Oh sure, it's no big deal until you're three hours in with a $12 orbital sander and your hands are vibrating like you've been holding a jackhammer to a sidewalk. The palm blister you get from gripping that plastic handle is a bonus little souvenir you didn't ask for. Then you realize you've been going in circles and the 80-grit paper is already bald, so now you're out to the hardware store again. It's the kind of job that makes you seriously question every life choice that led you to that garage.

Isn't that always the way, a cheap tool just makes a bad day longer?
