Warning: A small crack in a driveway slab turned into a big problem for us in Knoxville.

Last week, we poured a driveway for a house on a hill. The ground was wet from rain the day before. We saw a hairline crack form near the edge after the first pass with the bull float. Instead of waiting, we tried to work it out with the fresno. That just made it wider and deeper. Has anyone else had a crack show up that early and found a good way to fix it without a full tear out?

Honestly, that crack was a sign the base was already moving.

Man, sean is totally right. That crack wasn't about the concrete, it was the ground giving up. Tbh, I watched the exact same thing happen on a patio pour last month. We had a soft spot from a downspout and the second we hit it with the float, it just split open like that. Trying to fix it wet just makes a bigger mess every single time.
