Went back to a 2x4 screed after using a power one for a month
I rented a power screed for a driveway apron in Nashville last week and it left a wavy surface I spent hours trying to fix. My granddad used to say a 2x4 screed with two guys who know their rhythm beats a machine every time. Anyone else find old school hand methods still give a flatter finish on smaller pours?

...actually a power screed is more for speed than flatness, I learned that the hard way too. My buddy runs a crew that does nothing but big box store floors and they still use a 2x4 with a laser on smaller sections. The real trick is having two guys who can work the same pace and not fight each other... I noticed you mentioned Nashville, that humidity makes the mud go off faster too which definitely doesn't help the power screed keep up.

Would a hot mix actually give you a longer working window in that humidity?
