A guy at a hardware store in Reno said don't bother with the $12 stud finder, and now I owe him a beer

I was about to buy a cheap stud finder last month when a retired contractor in the aisle said the $12 one would just beep at everything and to spend $40 on a magnetic one instead. I ignored him, bought the cheap one, and it beeped over every single spot on my wall, so I went back and got the magnetic one and it worked perfectly. Has anyone else gotten advice in a store like that and actually gone back to say thanks?
