Finally cracked the filing code at my desk in Omaha
I work at the county records office downtown near 16th and Farnam. Found a way to group old case files by year and case type that shaved 45 minutes off my morning sorting. Has anyone else found a weird system that just clicks for your specific spot?

Hold on, that might be a recipe for disaster down the road. Mixing by year and type could make it impossible to find a file if someone forgets a detail or mislabels it, and then the whole system just falls apart.

Nah, I gotta agree with the other guy here. Mixing by year AND type sounds like a headache waiting to happen if someone labels a file wrong. Keep it simple man, too many layers just means more ways to mess it up.

My brother tried the year-and-type folder thing once. Ended up with 47 folders called "misc 2021" because nobody could remember what type a spreadsheet about his band's tour expenses was. Absolute chaos, like watching someone try to organize their junk drawer by color. You open one folder and find tax stuff from 2019 mixed with photos of someone's dog from 2022. I'm all for organization but at some point you gotta ask yourself if you want a filing system or a treasure hunt. Keep it flat, keep it boring, save your sanity.
