Hit exactly 300,000 miles on my old Chevy Silverado last Tuesday

I was rolling through the outskirts of Boise when the odometer flipped to 300,000 miles on the dot. That truck has been through three transmissions and two rear ends, but the original engine still runs smooth. For a guy who hears all the time that modern trucks are built to fail, hitting that number felt like proof that some things just last if you take care of them. Has anyone else passed a big milestone like that and had it change how you think about the whole planned obsolescence conspiracy?

Damn, I read somewhere that GM actually designed those old 90s trucks to go half a million miles easy.

Half a million is nothing if you keep up with basic maintenance.

I guess my truck is like me at this point, held together with duct tape and stubbornness. Three transmissions later I'm starting to wonder if I'm the one who's been planned to be obsolete, not the truck. My wife says if I put as much effort into my own health as I do that Silverado I'd probably hit 300,000 miles too. At this rate I'll be replacing my joints before I replace that engine.
