I finally cracked the code on tracking down that weird morning frost pattern on my truck windshield

For years I'd wake up and see the frost was always thicker on the driver's side corner, and I figured it was just some weird weather thing or bad luck. Tried parking different ways, even bought a specific cover, nothing helped. Then last winter after a big snow, I noticed the frost line matched up perfect with a small crack in my garage roof's flashing right above where I park. Patched that up with some roof cement and the frost pattern disappeared completely, hasn't come back since. Anyone else ever have a garage leak mess with something that seemed totally unrelated?

Oh man, I had a mirror version of this at my old house. The frost would always build up right on the passenger side of my windshield and I blamed the weird way my neighbor's fence blocked the wind. Then I found out my attic insulation had settled right above that parking spot and was basically non-existent in that corner. Threw a couple extra batts up there and bam, problem solved. It's wild how your brain jumps to the weirdest explanations when really it's just some basic house maintenance stuff.

Ah so "the frost was always thicker on the driver's side corner" was actually just your garage roof screaming for attention. Years of blaming the weather when really it was just a cheap fix and some roof cement. Man I love that feeling when you finally figure out something that felt like a mystery for way too long but it turns out the answer is way more boring than you thought. Next you're gonna tell me the weird noise in your walls was just your neighbor's kid playing the recorder.

Ive had that exact thing happen with ice dams on my north side. The real trick is to check the flashing where the roof meets the wall, not just the shingles. Caulking the seam with a quality polyurethane sealant stopped my "mystery frost" dead in its tracks. Also make sure your soffit vents arent blocked by insulation, that causes the cold spots that trick you into thinking its a weather thing.
