Just realized my sunroom leak took 6 months to actually fix

I kept slapping new caulk on the same corner of my sunroom window, thinking that was it. Then my neighbor Dan pointed out the flashing above it was totally shot. Took me 6 whole months to figure out something a roofer couldve spotted in 5 minutes. Anyone else waste way too long on the wrong fix for something simple?

Man, that hits close to home. I spent like 8 months trying to patch a leak in my bathroom ceiling with different kinds of sealant. Turned out the pipe in the wall had a tiny crack that only showed up when the water was running. Had a plumber come in and fix it in under an hour after I finally called someone. Felt like an idiot when he pointed to the wet spot on the drywall and said "that's your problem right there." Sometimes the most obvious fix is the one you avoid the longest.

Dan's a good neighbor for pointing that out. Usually the leak isn't where the water's coming in, it's running down something inside the wall first. A little trick I picked up from an old timer is to take a garden hose and spray different spots on the roof while someone watches inside. That way you know exactly where the water's getting in instead of guessing. Caulk's a temporary patch at best for something like that. Most folks just aim for the wet spot and miss the real issue by a few feet.
