My old laptop with all my research notes crashed right before a big forum debate

It happened two nights ago, right as I was putting together my final points on a thread about the 1997 Phoenix Lights. The screen just went black and wouldn't turn back on. I had to scramble, rewriting everything from memory on my phone, which took about three hours. Has anyone else had a key piece of tech fail right when you needed it most for this kind of deep dive?

Feel your pain, had a tablet die right before a long post on crop circle hoaxes. Started keeping a cheap notebook for quick ideas now. The real kicker is when you finally get the broken thing open and see your old notes were mostly nonsense anyway. Makes you wonder if the crash did you a favor.

Ngl, rewriting three hours of Phoenix Lights stuff from memory sounds like a special kind of hell. I get what @schmidt.cameron is saying about old notes being junk, but losing all your sources and quotes is brutal. That's the kind of crash that makes you want to throw the whole laptop out the window.

Honestly, that crash probably saved you from posting a wall of text. Schmidt.cameron is right about old notes being nonsense, and rewriting from memory forces you to keep only the good points. Tech failing is just the universe's bad way of doing editing.
