That $30 night vision camera I bought off a shady site last month was actually just a webcam in a black box

Ordered it from some forum link claiming it could see in pitch black, but after hooking it up I realized the infrared LEDs were just glued on and it only worked with a lamp on. Has anyone else fallen for those cheap 'military grade' gadgets that turn out to be total scams?

Man idk if it's really that deep. Like yeah it's annoying getting scammed out of 30 bucks but at that price point what did people really expect, military grade gear for the cost of a pizza? @charles720 I get what you're saying about the used tubes but that's a whole different budget category. Maybe it's just me but I feel like people get way too hype about those shady forum links and then act surprised when the thing doesn't work. Honestly the biggest scam here is probably the lack of basic returns, not the camera itself.

Man I read somewhere that most of those cheap night vision cams just use stolen webcam parts.

Yeah I had one of those $30 "digital night vision" scopes and it was literally just a low-res webcam sensor with some IR LEDs glued in. If you want something that actually works look for used gen 1+ tubes on eBay, not the digital junk.
