The ATM at my local bank gave me fake twenties last Thursday
I stopped at the Chase on 6th and Main in Austin to grab $200 for a yard sale, and three of those bills felt off right away. The paper was too smooth and the watermark looked printed on, so I went inside and the teller confirmed they were counterfeit. They took the money and gave me a case number, but now I'm wondering if this is happening more often than we hear about. Has anyone else run into fake cash from a bank machine?

Got handed a counterfeit $20 at a taco truck once and didn't notice till I tried to pay for my kid's school field trip with it. Teacher looked at me like I was running a printing press in my garage. Had to do the walk of shame to the bank with the fake bill and explain why I needed a fresh twenty, feeling about two inches tall the whole time. Makes you wonder if the machines just don't catch everything these days.

I read where the new $100 bills have better tech built in, but the $20s are still easier to fake since they didn't get the same upgrade.

It's wild how some things get all the upgrades while others get left behind lol. Makes you wonder if the people in charge just assume nobody bothers faking smaller bills anymore, but that's where the real everyday fraud happens. You see it with credit cards too, the fancy metal ones have all the chip tech but the basic plastic still gets skimmed at gas pumps. Guess the system is always playing catch up with the people trying to game it.
