Two ways of checking a viral claim and only one kept me from sharing junk

I used to just scroll the comments to see if people agreed with a wild video, but last week I tried searching the exact quote from it on Google and found the full 12 minute clip that the 30 second version cut off. The longer clip showed the guy was joking about half of what got clipped out. Does anyone else have a go-to move for checking this stuff before they hit share?
