Went to the Grand Canyon and saw a weird line of lights in the sky

I was camping there last month and around 2 AM, a perfect string of like 20 bright dots moved silently overhead. It was Starlink, but my buddy swore it was a test for something else. Anyone else see something like that and have people jump straight to wild ideas?

My cousin in Montana saw that Starlink train last year. He called me, totally convinced it was a secret military parade because the dots were so evenly spaced. I had to pull up a news article on my phone to show him. He still jokes about his "alien convoy" theory whenever we talk about the night sky.

Honestly the "alien convoy" idea might not be that far off. Those perfect lines in the sky are pretty weird if you don't already know what they are. I can see why someone's first guess wouldn't be a tech company's internet satellites.

Oh man, just show them a video like @alice928 did... it shuts down the wild guesses fast.

Hold on, does your buddy actually think the government is secretly testing something in plain sight like that? In my experience, people jump to the wildest ideas first because it's more exciting than the boring truth. Starlink has been launching those trains for years now, and they're super obvious when the sun hits them just right. I get that it looks crazy if you've never seen it before, but the timing and the perfect spacing are exactly what Starlink does. Your mileage may vary, but I'd take that video and just laugh about how our modern tech is basically indistinguishable from magic at this point.
