BIM coordination is turning into a blame game on our site

We're on a mixed-use job in Austin and every clash report turns into a 3-hour meeting about who owns the duct penetration. The GC keeps pushing the issue onto the structural model, but the MEP sub says their LOD 350 model is only as good as the ceiling heights we gave them. I've seen this on 4 projects now, where the cloud model gets treated like gospel even though nobody updates the field changes back into it. Is the answer a single federated model with one person in charge, or do we just accept the chaos and plan for it in the schedule?

Man, is it really that deep? Every project I've been on has this same song and dance. You're telling me grown adults are spending three hours fighting over who poked a hole in a ceiling? Just pick someone to own the clash report, make the call, and move on. The model's never gonna be perfect anyway, someone's always gonna hang a duct six inches off where the drawing says. If your schedule can't absorb a little back and forth, that's a planning problem, not a BIM problem.
