Can we talk about how I messed up a concrete pour in my own driveway last month

I was pouring a small pad for my shed in the backyard, like 4x6 feet. I figured I'd mix it by hand since it was small, but I got the water ratio totally wrong. The mix turned soupy and I spent 3 hours trying to get it level before it set. Ended up with a lumpy mess I had to break up and redo. Anyone else ever botch a simple job because they got cocky about the mix?

Man you're not alone on that one. Last year I tried to patch a spot in my own garage floor and got the water wrong too, ended up with a mess that looked like a melted cake. Had to rent a jackhammer just to break it out and pour again three days later.

I used to think you could just eyeball the water in concrete mix and be fine, but that garage floor project changed my whole mind @the_robin. I measured out 3 quarts of water for a 60-pound bag and still ended up with soup that wouldn't set right. Had to wait two full days for it to harden just enough to chip out with a chisel and hammer. Now I weigh my water in a jug every single time and write the numbers down. What brand of mix were you using that turned out so bad?
