I finally stopped trusting the 5% accuracy claims on robotic total stations
Last month we had a site survey in Boise where the manufacturer said the new robotic total station was accurate to 5% over 100 feet. I ran a simple check with a tape measure and a level string, and it was off by nearly 9 inches on a 40 foot run. That stat looked great on the spec sheet, but real world dirt, sun glare, and a slightly loose prism bracket changed everything. Has anyone else tested their gear against basic hand tools and found the marketing numbers don't hold up?

Wow, specs lie worse than my ex's dating profile!
