I ignored the scanner in the excavator for 3 months, then it found a gas line I would have hit
Ngl I thought those machine-control GPS setups were a way for the office to watch us, so I ran my 320 excavator the old way with stakes and a spotter. Last month in Fresno we were trenching a utility corridor and the screen started flashing red about 4 feet from where my bucket was headed. The foreman pulled the as-built and there was a 2 inch gas main right there that nobody had flagged, and hitting it would have been a very bad Tuesday. Turns out the model was built off the survey file, not some tracking thing, and it probably saved us 40 grand and a lot of paperwork. Has anyone else had the screen catch something the marks missed?
